Meet Canada’s Stantec, World Leader in Sustainable Solutions

With 10,000 employees, headquarters in Edmonton, Alberta, 130 offices across North America and thousands of clients around the world, Stantec is the water we drink, the routes we travel, the buildings we visit, the places we work and call home.

In operation since 1954 and reporting 55 years of uninterrupted profitability, Stantec provides professional consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, project management, and project economics for infrastructure and facilities projects. The company attributes its strengths to its adaptability to changes in market conditions coupled with employees’ extraordinary ability to execute projects.

In June 2009, Stantec earned a spot on Jantzi-Macleans 50 Most Socially Responsible Corporations. The 50 Most Socially Responsible Companies in Canada are selected on the basis of their performance across a broad range of environmental, social, and governance indicators tracked by Jantzi Research.

Also in December 2009, Stantec was honoured with two Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards.  Stantec’s award-winning Wal-Mart-Burlington project featured design of a large geo-exchange system for the 135,000-square-foot supercenter. A series of cost-saving technologies were used to shave more than 70 percent off geothermal construction costs.  Stantec’s win in the natural resources and energy category was for the Cavendish Farms Bio-Gas Facility on Prince Edward Island. Using potato waste as fuel, the facility is expected to realize a 30-35% reduction in its overall carbon footprint within a year.

In June 2009, Stantec was honoured with a Canadian Green Building Award by Sustainable Architecture Building (SAB) Magazine for its work on the Vancouver Aquarium's Aquaquest - the Marilyn Blusson Learning Centre.  One of the first zoos or aquariums in the world to achieve the LEED® Gold Certified designation, the 52,000 square foot building features include an environmental newsroom, a 50m² Living Wall and Vancouver’s first approved rain-water harvesting and reuse system.
