Hexion: Plants in Alberta and Quebec serve Canadian customers in key markets
The Canadian facilities of Hexion Specialty Chemicals are a leading source of binding resins used by the forest products industry to manufacture engineered wood products. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Hexion is the second-largest company of its kind based in North America, with sales of $6.1 billion in 2006.
For nearly 40 years, two plants in Alberta have served Western Canada and one in Quebec has served Eastern Canadian customers. In 2006, Hexion also opened a new plant in Sturgeon, Alberta specifically to produce proppants (a resin-coated sand product) used in oil and gas extraction in the Canadian shale fields.
“We continue to invest in our businesses in Canada to aid our Canadian customers in the forest products and energy sectors,” says Peter Loscocco, Vice President, Public Affairs at Hexion. “Proximity to key customers and access to skilled workforce at our Canadian locations have greatly contributed to Hexion’s status as the number-one manufacturer of forest products in North America, and has cemented our leadership position in proppants products for oil and gas production.”
Hexion’s resins are used in bonding, binding and coating applications in many industries for virtually thousands of end-use products. In Canada, the main applications include resins used primarily in the forest products, foundry, automotive and oilfield sectors.
Hexion is yet another global leader that finds opportunity in Canada.
